The walk was organized by The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA). It was founding in 1967 by Irwin M. and Suzanne Rosenthal, William D. and Shelby Modell, and Henry D Janowitz, M.D. Currently the foundation has over 50,000 members and has over 40 chapters nationwide. For more information on this organization please visit their website at www.ccfa.org.

The CCFA’s Take Steps Walk was started two years ago as a fundraising and networking opportunity. Since its inception in 2008, the CCFA’s Take Steps Walk has raised over $13 million for research and patient services programs. In addition to raising money, these nationwide walks also provide an opportunity for individuals suffering from digestive diseases to find community and support. The Take Steps Walk has brought together over 75,000 people, successfully raising awareness of these little-known diseases. This year, the Santa Barbara based chapter raised $20,000 and more than 180 people attended. To donate or learn more about upcoming CCFA sponsored events, visit their website.
